It was the start of the settlement in the area. Numerous stories and adventures from this period were passed down to our present days.
Some very rare animal species like the capercaillie cock and the adder live around Kaltenbronn. A widespread area of the forest is a declared protected zone. One of the highlights at Kaltenbronn is the Information Centre.
